Molly's Mermaid Wish
Hi! I'm a teacher and educator who loves to write children's stories for the classroom or family entertainment at home. I have over 35 years in the field of education with a Bachelor of Science degree and a masters of Arts degree in education.
After teaching in the primary grades for five years, I embraced the growing field of after school supplemental educational tutoring services and joined a company on the ground floor as they expanded into the Chicago market. For twenty-five plus years I ran successful learning center businesses in the Chicago metropolitan area. I worked directly with students of all ages, K-12 and adult learners, for both the private and public sectors. Currently, I am back in my home town of Burlington, Iowa where I am continuing to teach part time in the elementary school system, first as a teacher in the before and after school Pieces 21st Century Grant program, and regularly as a substitute teacher in K-5 classrooms. In addition, I am a lead instructor in an ACT Prep program funded through Elliot Test Kitchen Foundation. I continue to promote and write children’s books as well.
My projects are represented by Moon Hollow Enterprises, LLC. My interest in the integration of non-fiction elements into entertaining and whimsical stories is at the heart of my current writing projects with Moon Hollow Enterprises, LLC. The educational and teaching aspects of my book projects offer enhanced opportunities for teachers and educators for use in classrooms. I also have developed literacy and writing workshops for in-services and presentations.
I am Editorial Director, Partner and Writer for Moon Hollow Enterprises, LLC, a forward-looking company which has developed several books for the Children’s Literature and education market. I have always loved the lyrical nature of rhyming books as a child which led me to write several stories since 2011, Harry The Mouse Who Lived In My Car, Valentine,The Purr-fect Kitty, 3 Little Pugs and Other Dog Tails, There’s A Snake in My Room!. Future works include A Turtle In My Pocket, and in illustration, Molly’s Mermaid Wish , and Freddy The Hip Hop Frog and His Lily Pad Band. Barbara G. Carroll, BS, MA Education. Council President Zone Director @ Iowa Reading Assoc.
Hi! I'm Ann D. Wolf and serve as Business Development Director, Partner and key illustrator for Moon Hollow Enterprises LLC, the company that has developed Harry The Mouse Who Lived In My Car. As key illustrator for Moon Hollow Enterprises LLC, my whimsical, expressionistic and colorful depictions in Harry The Mouse Who Lived In My Car, a book published in April 2012, exemplifies and compliments Barbara Carroll's very colorful verbal descriptions of the two main characters and their various interactions and adventure throughout this story. A second book also published, There’s A Snake In My Room!, continues to showcase Ann’s illustrating style, color, and whimsy. I am currently working on another one of Barbara Carroll’s unique stories, Molly’s Mermaid Wish.
I hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Iowa and a Masters degree from the University of Northern Iowa in Philanthropy and Nonprofit Development. I also hold professional nonprofit certifications that include CFRE (Certified Fund Raising Executive) and CNP (Certified Nonprofit Professional). For the past 25 year’s I have focused a considerable amount of my professional attention and skill sets in agriculture best practices, environmental sustainability, conservation initiatives and habitat restoration. In recent years I have served as Executive Director for Iowa Heartland Resource Conservation & Development and currently serve as Co-Program Director with MidwestHealthyAg.ORG. I am a seasoned, energetic, highly effective nonprofit fundraising executive and nonprofit leader and have been recognized nationally, regionally, and locally for extensive environmental conservation and wildlife habitat sustainability efforts. As an Iowa woman farm owner I focus many of my efforts and attention in controlling soil erosion, supporting watershed management efforts and natural habitat restoration. The name of our business Moon Hollow Enterprises is derived from the geographical land hollow and driftless formation that is part of my farm area in eastern Iowa known as Mooney Hollow.

“We cannot wait until Ms. Carroll publishes her new books about snakes and dogs. She read us parts of these books and they were awesome!” Miss Bonk’s Second Grade Class – St. Leonard School – Berwyn, IL
“Ms. Carroll is the best writer we’ve ever known!!” Miss Bonk’s Second Grade Class – St. Leonard School – Berwyn, IL
Sarah read Harry the Mouse part, wearing a mouse costume. She had practiced the part with Ms. Kim Johnson, the K teacher.
“I liked the story. It was really cute and funny”. When asked about the hard words in Harry’s part, she said. “Oh yes there were four hard words but I could read them: mayhem, strife, debris, furrow.” Sarah, 3rd grade Oak Hill Elementary Lowell IND
Other students at Oak Hill commented on Harry The Mouse Who Lived In My Car…..Karina and Sarrah wanted to see the “real” Harry in the blue car cage. Teya liked when Harry was caught and put in the cage. Rhiannon liked when Harry caught the cherry tomato. Lucas liked the part when the lady caught Harry and made him her pet.
What educators are saying…
"Barbara, you were absolutely wonderful! Thank you for being our first event in the new space for the Danville Library! I have read through the books purchased for my grandchildren and you have done a marvelous job of writing!!"
Thanks again, Nancy Martin

Teacher Morning Sun Elementary School
“Barbara Carroll was a visitor in my kindergarten classroom at Oak Hill Elementary in Lowell, IN. She along with a third grade student took turns reading from her new book, Harry the Mouse Who Lived in my Car. Barbara played the part of herself and the third grade student played the part of the mouse. My students were very attentive and into the story through its entirety. The students seemed to really enjoy the 2 different parts that the story encompassed and were very intrigued to find the mouse on each page. After the reading, Barbara came prepared with a reinforcing kindergarten appropriate activity. The students really enjoyed connecting with the story through this activity. I would highly recommend this book for multiple grade levels, the vocabulary within the book would be a great way to extend this story in upper grades. This book would also be a great skit for Readers Theater. Without hesitation, I recommend this book within a classroom curriculum, or for a fun and engaging reading material for children. “ Kim Johnson, Kindergarten Teacher Oak Hill Elementary Lowell IND
Further, Ms. Kim Johnson, Kindergarten teacher Oak Hill Elementary School, Lowell Indiana, gave this assessment of the book and possible extension activities for use in the classroom.
“I really liked the introduction to the story. The dual parts were a unique feature that I have not seen in a book before. This book could be extended to include activities like vocabulary development, points of view. It would also make a very good read aloud big book for use in the classroom. Then the pictures would be bigger and the children could have fun locating Harry on the pages. .The book could also be used on lots of different reading levels.”
"As Director of Education, I am always looking for ideas to encourage students to read. Barbara Carroll has written a wonderful children’s book that has beautiful illustrations, great rhythmic flow, and it’s fun and entertaining. I would use this book as part of an educational piece to engage and teach the fundamentals of reading. “ Nancy Mayo, Director of Education Sylvan Learning Evergreen Park IL
